Snowman Tea Cup Pattern

Cute little snowman made with #10 cotton thread and seed beads.

Materials

Size 10 White Cotton Thread (small amount)
Size 10/0 (2.2–2.4 mm) Seed Beads (7 Black Beads, 1 Red Bead or Orange Bead)

Special Stitches

Sc-bead: To place a bead, slide one bead in front of your hook, insert your hook in the next st and work sc as usual (behind the bead).

Pattern

Start by stringing 2 black beads, 1 red or orange bead, and 5 black beads on your white thread.

This pattern is worked in rounds.

Rnd 1: Ch2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in first sc. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 2 sc in same sc as joining, 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st in first sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: Working in BACK LOOPS for this round only, ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first sc. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch1, sc in same sc as joining. sc in next 3 sc. Sc-bead in next 3 sc. Sc in each rem sc.  Do not join yet. For Handle: ch 7, sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in each remaining ch.) Join with sl st in first sc. (24 sc, plus handle)

Rnd 5: Ch, sc in same sc as joining, sc in next 2 sc. Sc-bead in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, sc-bead in next sc. Sc in each rem sc. Skip handle. Working behind handle, join with sl st in first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 6: Ch1, sc in same sc as joining, sc in each sc around. Join with sl st in first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 7: Ch1, sc in same sc as joining, sc in next 3 sc. Sc-bead in next sc, sc in next sc, sc-bead in next sc. Sc in rem sc. Join with sl st in first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 8: Ch1, sc in same st as joining. Sc in each sc around. Do not join yet. To Connect Handle: Insert hook in turning ch of handle (made in Rnd 4), sl st in first sc of rnd 8 and pull through all loops on hook to join. (24 sc)

Rnd 9: Ch1, sc 2 tog in same st as joining and next sc, sc in next sc, *sc 2 tog, sc in next. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first sc. (18 sc)

Rnd 10: Sl st in each sc around.

Finish off. Weave in ends.

Optional: Starch with commercial stiffener or in a mixture of equal parts white glue and water.

Materials

  • Worsted Weight Yarn 
(small amounts of white and black)
  • Size G Crochet Hook 
(or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle (for weaving in ends)

Gauge

4 sc / 4 rows = 1 inch

Finished size: Approximately 4x4 inches

Special Stitches

Elongated Sc: Insert hook 3 rows below current row into next sc, yo, pull up a loop to the height of the current row, yo, pull through both loops on hook.

Dec Sc: Insert hook into first sc, yo, pull up a loop, insert hook between the same sc and the first elongated sc, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Crochet Instructions

With white, ch 16.
(Note: To make a longer crochet piece with this pattern, increase beg ch by multiples of 7. Then in Row 6, repeat * one time for each 7 stitches added.)

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (15 sc)

Rows 2–5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each ch across. (15 sc). Finish off white.

Row 6: Turn work. Join black with sc in first sc. *Elongated sc in next 2 sc of row 2, sc in next sc of row 5, elongated sc in next 3 sc of row 2, sc in next sc of row 5. Repeat from * one time. (15 sc)

Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Dec sc over the first sc and the space before the first elongated sc (see special stiches). Continue working sc between stitches until you reach the last unworked sc. Sc in last sc. (15 sc)

Rows 8–16: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across. (15 sc) Finish off black. Weave in all ends. Steam block for a polished look.
